Laserfiche 8 - Export Options:
Brian Sabin, May 2008
Laserfiche 8 provides you with many export options, including new options for dragging and dropping entries into Windows Explorer and sending documents zipped and password-protected via e-mail from a Laserfiche repository.
Creating External Shortcuts
Dragging and dropping from a repository to Windows Explorer gives users a quick and easy way to create shortcuts to documents and folders located in a repository, as well as to export documents as PDFs (or another format, depending on your default export settings). These shortcuts can be e-mailed to other users who have access to the repository where the original entry resides.
- To create a shortcut to a document located in your repository, hold CTRL + SHIFT while dragging it to Windows Explorer.
- To export a document as a PDF, drag it from the repository to Windows Explorer.
- To create a shortcut to a folder inside your repository, drag the folder to Windows Explorer.
Enhancements to E-Mail Export
Like Laserfiche 7, Laserfiche 8 enables you to send more than one document as a zipped attachment via e-mail, but Laserfiche 8 adds the ability to password protect your attachments. To zip multiple documents and attach them to an e-mail, the Combine attachments into one zip file check box must be selected under Tools > Options > Export > E-mail. Once you select this check box, you will have the option to password protect the zipped file and send the documents in any available format. If this check box is not selected, you will only be able to password protect files sent as PDFs. (Note that this functionality requires the Laserfiche E-Mail Plug-In.)
Note: For the next several tips, we’ll continue to preview new functionality in Laserfiche 8. Because this is a preview, note that the details and appearance of certain elements may change between now and the final release of the software.
