Who's "Most Popular" at City of Alexandria...?

Newport News, VA - October 24, 2007 - Just last month, the City of Alexandria awarded their prestigious “City Star” award to the Information Technology Services (ITS) Applications Team for its innovative implementation of Laserfiche in multiple departments throughout the City.
Why the Recognition?
The Applications Team was recognized for moving the City forward technologically and for the significant savings in office space, mailing expenses, and especially employee time savings. Instead of employees taking up to 4 days to find a document because that document may be offsite or located in a different department, they now can find that document in a matter of seconds. The City was able to meet state mandates of document retention by simply upgrading to the Records Retention Module (RME) of Laserfiche which only took a few seconds to complete.
The City of Alexandria is a customer of Unity Business Systems; Bob Pell, UBS Systems Engineer, held an integral role in the implementation of the Laserfiche software and UBS solution in the City departments. According to ITS Director, Judy Milligan:
“Bob Pell has been visiting the City of Alexandria once per month during the major part of our implementation efforts. He has been very instrumental in the training of staff, both users and technical staff. Bob’s one-on-one training and patience with our programming staff is why we were able to accomplish as much as we have. During visits, he would review our work and often improve our processes, saving us time and money. Bob also helped us design some of our more sophisticated imaging projects and made sure we understood the security features offered by Laserfiche.”
What is the “City Star” Award?
The “City Star” Award is a monthly program which rewards employees (or a team of employees) for their exemplary performance in demonstrating values of the City of Alexandria. Employees are recognized for being innovative, for identifying and developing solutions to problems, and for not being afraid to take a risk. The City also recognizes an especially good or effective job that (a) achieves a valuable result, (b) takes place under difficult circumstances, or (c) jumpstarts innovative thinking or actions. Winners are chosen by a committee of peers.
Milligan adds, “Because Laserfiche is so user friendly to implement, the Applications Team was able to simultaneously implement a second major City application.” Laserfiche is now used by half of the City departments; also recently purchased and installed: a web server that makes public specific City documents to its citizens.
The Laserfiche implementation was accomplished with no disruption to City services, in a timely manner, and at a minimal cost to its tax payers.
