UBS Customer Gets Ball Rolling...!
Christine B. Ilardi, October 2007
Newport News, VA - October 29, 2007 - Unity Business Systems is proud to say that one of their customers came up with the idea for the Laserfiche submission at this year’s American Public Works Association (APWA) Conference in San Antonio, TX. According to Laserfiche Vertical Market Manager Doug Crane, “the assistance and guidance from Fred Whitley, City of Hampton, VA, in suggesting that Laserfiche submit a topic for consideration got the ball rolling and was instrumental in making this happen.”
Dynamic Information for Better Business Processes is Laserfiche’s presentation on the City of Chula Vista’s (CA) innovative approach to accessing content from 3 different applications – asset management, document management and permitting through a GIS interface; the presentation was received well by the APWA audience. During the session presented by Crane and two engineers from the City of Chula Vista, participants learned these main objectives:
- How to evaluate the document management needs of a department
- How to maximize interoperability between a document management system and other crucial business applications
- How to improve business processes and increase efficiency by using web utilities to expand the reach of in-house document management systems
Crane also adds, “We find that most engineering and public works departments struggle with problems related to access, storage, working with large format drawings and separated business locations that require more of a collaborative approach to application sharing. These types of departments are increasingly relying on wireless communication and GIS integration with doc management and Weblink help to solve their problems.”
Some of the benefits that the City of Chula Vista saw:
- Access to information was much improved
- Collaboration between employees in different buildings/areas increased dramatically
- Locating data through the use of a CV Mapper in Laserfiche improved the work process
- Community Facility Agreements became more of a collaborative process
- Web-based tools enabled access to all
